Historic Orihuela

Orihuela’s old town, about twenty kilometres inland, has been a protected Historic-Monumental Site since 1969, and packs five national monuments within a short walk below Monte de San Miguel. The cathedral was begun in the late 13th century and raised to cathedral rank in 1510.

The Colegio de Santo Domingo, nicknamed the “Escorial of the Levante”, is one of the region’s largest monumental complexes, with two cloisters and a Baroque church.
